Nepal Travel Info: Complete Nepal Tourist Visa Information

Talking about the Visa Policy of Nepal, it is one of the most liberal Visa Policy which allows everyone to enter the Territory of Nepal. Except for Indian Citizens, everyone seeking entry in Nepal has to obtain a Visa either from the Nepal Diplomatic Missions Abroad or from the Nepal Entry ports and Checkpoints.


Freedom Of Movement

Citizens of India do not need an Entry Visa to enter Nepal. With the Recipricality between the two Countries, the Citizens of Nepal and India have freedom of Movement in India and Nepal. Indians can visit, reside and work in Nepal and Nepalese can so do too.

To enjoy Freedom of Movement, Indian Citizens must have to show any of the following listed documents:

  • Indian Passport
  • Voter ID card with photograph
  • Registration certificate issued by the Indian embassy to the Indian citizen residing in Nepal
  • Ad hoc/temporary identity card issued by the Indian embassy to the Indian citizen in the event of an emergency

Non-ordinary Passport Holder

Along with the Indian, The Non-Ordinary Passport Holders of the following Countries are also not required to obtain Visa.
  •  Brazil
  •  China
  •  Myanmar
  •  Russia
  •  Thailand
  •  Vietnam

Visa On Arrival(VOA)

Other than nationals of the Pre Visa Requiring Countries, and Refugee Travel Documents Holder, any foreign Nationals seeking Nepal entry are eligible for Visa On Arrival. The Eligible foreigners may obtain multiple Tourist Visa for a duration of 15 days, 30 days, or 90 days.

  • The Temporary Passport Holders are not eligible for Visa On Arrival except the Temporary Passport holders issued by the Member States of the European Union.

The intenders have to submit the form to obtain the Visa on Arrival alongside the Visa Application Fee. Eligible foreigners can also apply for Online Visa and Visa On Arrival.

Except for the nationals under the Gratis Visa Program, everyone applying for a Nepal Tourist visa have to pay the Visa fee as follows.

Nepal Tourist Visa Extension

Any tourist seeking more days in Nepal can extend the Visa period with additional extension fees. The tourist can extend their visa but the total days they are in Nepal must not more than 150 Days in a single year( Jan 1st to December last)

Online Visa

The Eligible Foreign who are not required to obtain Visa in Advance can submit the form for Visa on Arrival in order to avoid the queue and long processing time or may also get the Online Visa for fast check-ins in Checkpoints.

The Pre Visa Requiring foreigners can also apply Visa to the Embassies or Diplomatic Mission Near to them online.


Gratis Visa/ Free Visa

To certain foreign nationals, the Government of Nepal has been providing gratis Visa or Free Visa. The terms of Gratis Visa are as follows:

For the first visit in a single Visa Year ie. from 1st January to 31st December, the Nationals of South Asia( Member Nation of South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation, SAARC) are eligible for 30 Days Gratis Visa. However, the Visa Extention charge is applicable if require to extend the Gratis Visa.

Although the Nationals of Afganistan requires the Visa in Advance, the Visa application fee is exempted for Afghanis.

Indian Citizens are not required to obtain a visa for Nepal entry. Any Legal Documents aforementioned are required to present to qualify for Entry.

Gratis Visa to Chinese Nationals

Citizens of the Peoples’ Republic of China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Macau Special Administrative Region who are traveling to Nepal are seeking a Tourist visa can get the Gratis visa and enjoy a Tourist Visa Free of Charge. The Charge is only exempted for Tourists not other Visa Types. For this facility they have to apply through:
